DinRPi - The new DIN rail mountable enclosure for your Raspberry Pi with included powersupply

Hi,

I have developed a new enclosure for the Raspberry Pi. Integrated features include a powersupply, IOs, RS232 and RS485 ports.

The projet is now live on Kickstarter:

Nice Video. Questions: Q1: what does the "Din" in DinRPi, stand for? Q2: RS232?, RS485? are these interfaces still in-use nowadays? I guess maybe if you have equipment/instruments that have them as an Interface.

The "DinR" stands for DIN Rail. RS232 and RS485 interfaces are used in many industrial systems, for example most photovoltaic inverters have an RS485 interface. My opinion about RS232/RS485: Legends never die! ;-)

    Couple of points:

    • The 5V/1A solution is barely enough for practical use.
    • Your Din looks a lot like https://www.rapidonline.com/phoenix-contact-rpi-bc-raspberry-pi-din-rail-enclosure-563669 at higher costs(?)
    • What relay are you using? Since this does not allow higher voltage that other dins already support, I would stick to IOT2020 from Siemens.

These are my views here. Good luck on your project.

    Clem

    Hi Clem,

    Thank you for your feedback!

I measured the powerconsumption of my RaspberryPi B+ with about 250mA! I also tested a RaspberryPi 3B with this powersupply and it works great. But you are right if you want to supply some external components you should choose the 5V/2A version.

The phoenix contact solution does not have an internal powresupply or IOs so you can't compare the price.

For the IOs I use SFH615 optocouplers because I think this solution is more flexible.

What about CE / UL and other certifications, Industrial companies require this in many situations and also in many regions it is required to have it to even sell the products. ?

    Hi Peter,

The CE and UL certificate should arrive when the Kickstarter campaign ends.
