Thx Clem for your posting. The URL listed answered some Q's I had about the AED (Amazon Echo Dot), but opened more Q's about the project as a Whole. I will leave it to EM & MH to come up w/ a Project Aim and Requirements for this project. It is hard to obtain Meaningful Specifications on these devices GHD and AED. WRT GHD, I might be able to inspect and ask Q's about it, in person. There is/was a Google Pop-Up Store (in NYC) a few months ago. I went there to checkout the Google Smartphone Pixel. Maybe they have an Google Home Device GHD there?

Google's GHD lists at $129. Has a 16.5VDC @2A Power-Brick. So much for portability. BTW the Bottom of Unit Contains The Speakers for Sound. I guess it's back to the Amazon AED?

Nice thread, lots of ideas from everyone on how to tackle this voice related subject.

Just to add one more to the list, there is another Raspberry Pi option that should be available soon, that is the 'Matrixcreator' board, it plugs on top of the Pi, and results in what is like a hackable version of an Echo Dot.

To Shabaz: Thx for URL to Matrix Creator (MC). Watching the video on the URL, left me the impression that this $99(USD) MC is a platform onto which we can use/add Sensors/Actuators. MC might be a little complicated for what MM wants to do? AAR it is another resource to keep in mind. BTW the URL show the MC's creator(?) at a Maker Faire(?). There was a NYC Maker Faire in Sept/Oct 2016. I did not attend. $35(USD) for one day was affordable but Not commensurate w/ my time/interest(s) back in Sept/Oct 2016. If I get into this "hacking/prototype(ing)" I may attend the NYC Maker Faire 23.,4SEP2017. Anybody out there ever attend a Maker Faire?

    Hi Edward,

That's true. You're right, the MC might be more than what is needed.

I've only been to one maker faire, and it was fun, but I suspect hackspaces might also be an interesting/more interactive way to get into electronics as a hobby and seeing what everyone else is up to regularly. The maker faire is more about seeing exhibits and brief chats because of the rush, and games and sales and food and all-round fun day out, although it would definitely give ideas.

Amazon Echo, Tap, Dot. This URL compares/contrasts each of the Three models. Amazon Echo vs Amazon Tap vs Amazon Echo Dot. Unfortunately b/c they (in the Article) do not go into detail as to the Power Requirements, I cannot say anything definitive about Portability.

Maybe MMcD, EM, C-3PO, MH, and USCDADNYC Should Follow Shabaz's Thread "Google's Alexa-Like Pi AIY Kit Mini Teardown", instead of continuing Here. Of course we will have to move to the UK. LOL Seeing that the AIY Kit is only(?) in the UK.
