When done properly soldering makes an excellent semi-permanent connection. It is a good idea to plan where the wires will lie so that there aren't any conflicts. If the pads you plan to solder to are small make sure that the exposed wire is short and tinned prior to soldering it to the board so that you can minimize contact time for the iron.
