Joystick for raspberryPi 3

jodylou22
jodylou22 over 6 years ago

Hey everyone, I need some help. I have no understanding of the raspberryPi what so ever but my wonderful boyfriend wants a joystick image can anyone send me a link for one that will work please? (Must be right handed) preferably not too expensive but if it makes him happy then the price doesn't really matter much.

Would be grateful for any help as I know nothing about the raspberryPi but I'm a black belt at shopping.

There are different types and many styles that would work.  I personally like the arcade style but it depends on what kind of games and personal taste.  This may be one of those things where it is best to ask him  image

Hi  thanks for your help. I know that he'd really love this one but I don't know if it'll work, any ideas? kb3yjZwAxlxoCCncQAvD_BwE

If it helps he likes to play things like outrun  sensible soccer and metal slug.

As you will probably use this with retropie, it might be useful to ask the same question on the retropie forum https://retropie.org.uk/forum/

Note there are two types of joysticks, analog joysticks and digital joysticks.

a digital joystick is the most common one, and probably cheaper, but an analog joystick is more precise, for racing games and such.

    Both are supported by Retropie.

Most people now buy a joypad, instead of a joystick, or you could use a controller for a console (a playstation controller for example) but make sure you got one that is USB, and is supported by Retropie.

It will work but this is more for the DIY type that wants to customize.  For example, here is a kit from the same vendor that has buttons:  https://www.adafruit.com/product/3272

If you want something that works out of the box then your link looks OK.  Make sure you keep the receipt in case it doesn't though image

Hi guys. Just to let you know that the c64 retro joystick does work with the raspberryPi and retropie.

My bf says it makes playing old games more fun and more like when he was a kid so he's very happy image
