Raspberry Pi Touchscreen adapter board problem

Hi,

I have a damaged adapter board on my 7 inch Smart Pi touch. Is the adapter board available separately please, and if so, what would be the cost?

Many thanks

    Hi Jeff,

If you mean the green board indicated with an arrow below, I'm fairly sure it is not available for sale separately as a replacement part, it is only sold with screen.

However, there are people out there who have smashed their screens but the board is functioning (e.g. see this thread: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=108&t=214459  ), so they be willing to sell, and may appear as damaged listed items on e-bay from time to time possibly.

Is it not functioning at all, or some other fault? Some things could be repairable/solvable by the user if it is out of warranty, but I don't know if you've already investigated and confirmed this is not possible.

It might be repairable. I was a bit heavy-handed trying to push in the cable-lock for the lead to the pi, and the connector tore itself from the board.

All the pads appear to be ok, but it would need a new connector.

I made the mistake of trying to close the clip whilst the board was attached to the screen. Screen is fine, though.

I've ordered a ribbon cable connector to re-solder to the board. I've not had a go at doing this before, so will be an interesting test of my new reflow iron.

I think the connector is coming from another planet as the delivery time is quite long, but will post the results when it arrives. I've ordered 20, so will have plenty of them to try! If you need one, I'll send for the price of a stamp once I'm done.

It looks (in the closeup) as if two pads have come loose. It will certainly take some effort getting those connected again.

All the pads appear to be ok,

I'd have to disagree with that. Two pads are definitively gone.
