This is the second time, I have visited this post and I am still no more clearer on the question. Can you provide the following details?

What are you trying to do? Provide a description of the goal in the exercise. (I want to have the Pi3B+ act as a USB drive...or something to that affect.)

What are you using for hardware? Both ends and the connection in the middle.

What are the operating systems involved? Both ends and versions.

What software if any are you trying to use? Both ends and versions.

Me; I was looking for a Rasp w/ case to install Almond. https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/#raspberry-pi
I don't tinker much now due to health restrictions/age so I was looking to buy reconfigured hardware.

Welcome. E14 is a great community.

Check back often. RoadTest Reviews that involve Pi hardware have come up a few times. You may have a project unique to your prospective that could get you hardware at zero costs. Well it will cost you the time to invest in a RoadTest but to me that is the fun part.
