I have an old portable DVD player with an AV out plug. I was wondering if I used an AV to RCA cable then a double sided RCA cable if I could hook it up to a raspberry pi and use it as a screen.

Well you don't give too much information about your DVD player, but I would suggest that connecting the 'AV out' of a RaspberryPi to the 'AV out' of a DVD player would not work.
well is there anyway I can make it an AV in?
Do you have any information about your DVD player? Make/Model for instance?
