I have kept my original download, but I have downloaded the zip file again to compare them.

I'm running WinXP with Cygwin.

My old download from Feb 26 and today's are identical.

WinZip complains - "Archive is greater than 4 gigabytes."

WinRAR complains - "! ... wolfson_3.10_master.zip: Either multipart or corrupt ZIP archive"

Command line unzip complains - "warning [wolfson_3.10_master.zip]: 418149653 extra bytes at beginning or within zipfile...error [wolfson_3.10_master.zip]: start of central directory not found;...

7-zip works, it extracts the image OK.

There are Linux and OSX versions of 7-zip available at http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

... and Wolfson's patches didn't apply cleanly.

Apparently there's been work done to add support for a new SoC DAC.

I'll try to patch by hand. Always fun

EDIT: Wouldn't you know... we're keeping with the theme of this thread. Command line unzip was unable to unzip the kernel source Zip-file

Apparently a bug in Linux unzip that pops up when you have many symbolic links with long path names in the archive. 7zip to the rescue again!

Nope, too much stuff has happened in sound/soc/codecs/wm8804.c between 3.10.25 and 3.10.36.

I'm not familiar enough with that code to make an attempt.

I've made an update/upgrade test run. Fresh install of the Foundation wheezy 2014-01-07 image (i.e. not NOOBS), raspi-config, apt-get update, apt-get upgrade and rpi-update.

End result: 3.10.36+ #662 PREEMPT Fri Apr 4 18:31:16 BST 2014 armv6l and all the latest firmware.

I then applied my patch archive, i.e. downgraded the kernel to 3.10.25.

And it works... I can play and record.

No idea why it won't work for some of you.

Thank you Ragnar, I did the same that you explained in the prev posts and my wolfson worked flawlessly (only playing audio right now).

Yesterday I download the Foundation Raspbian, upgraded and updated everything, the latest kernel WAS 3.10.36+ #664, I followed

your instructions on going back to kernel 3.10.25 with the smaller package you provided, and it work just perfect.

I'm happy listening to some loseless flacs via MPD on the Pi and mpc/auremo/mpdroid as clients.

I just booted up Raspyfi, the precursor to Volumio, using Ragnar's Wolfson replacement kernel. It all seems to work. The Wolfson card is recognised, and I can play music out through the SPDIF out. Presumably the same approach would work for Volumio too.

You can try to use my patch for runeaudio

Patch contains a modified kernel with modules and other supporting files, including the necessary changes in runeaudio

It also includes support for hw and safe shutdown poweroff module, described in another post.

The problem with unpacking the zip file on MacOS is that the MacOS has issues unzipping Zip64 files that are >4G in size. MacOS even has problems unzipping files created on the Mac if they go over 4G. (I've been bitten by this bug a few times now, and don't yet have a satisfactory alternative way of unzipping such files.)

Would it be possible to make the .img file directly downloadable? This would allow those that need the file in an unzipped format to at least get it.

I found the following information which may be of help, it says to install the latest version of Info-Zip or use an alternative program:

After some poking around, the problem turns out to be that OS X ships with v3.0 of Info-Zip's zip, which supports the Zip64 extensions and uses them automatically when needed (so I was creating Zip64 files without realizing it), but only v5.52 of Info-Zip's unzip, which doesn't support Zip64 - Zip64 support was added in unzip's v6.0.

I have no idea why Apple didn't ship an unzip that matches the shipped zip, but I found two easy solutions:

1. MacPorts users can install unzip 6.0 using "sudo port install unzip".
2. The shareware archive utility BetterZip, which is a handy piece of software anyway, supports Zip64, so just by using that instead of the command line, I was able to extract my archived VM and continue my day.

Could you try this and let me know if it works for you ? The command "sudo port install unzip" would be ran from a terminal/console.

Hi, I don't know what is causing your problem, but I notice you seem to have the Pi connected to your TV (?) with an HDMI cable. I wonder if that is forcing the default audio output to be HDMI? I've very little experience with XBMC so I can't help you there.

You could try what I did, and install MPD and Volumio, and run the Pi headless (without the TV and HDMI connection), accessing it remotely from your main computer.

This link http://typingoutloud.org/raspberry-pi-installing-volumio-pibang/ explains how to install Volumio (or at least the Volumio Web-GUI) in your Raspian installation. The example is actually for the PiBang distribution, but it worked for me installing it to my Raspyfi set-up, so there's a good chance it would work with a Raspian install.

Alternatively, install MPD (if it is not already installed) and use another MPD client like Gnome Music Player, remotely from your main computer. I'm using the same Wolfson kernel as you (from Ragnar) with the Volumio Web-GUI, so they can work together.

Not sure about RuneAudio. I tried it when I was using a USB Dac (before getting the Wolfson card), but it was early in its development, and didn't work well. Nice graphics, but they don't seem to have done any development work for 3 months, looking at the date of the download files. They designed the graphic interface that Volumio uses as well, but I wonder if Michelangelo, the current developer on Volumio, is the one who did most of the development work on the audio side of things?
