Problem getting Wolfson Audio Card working: "amixer: Cannot find the given element from control hw:0"

I'm having problems getting my new wolfson audio card working. I've following the instructions in the manual when installing the card, and I'm using the custom supplied Noobs image.

When using the Playback_to_Headset.sh script I get the error message:

amixer: Cannot find the given element from control hw:0

Suspecting the card was not correctly seated, I took it apart and rebuilt it. When inspecting the P5 connector, there seems to be good contact between the spring-loaded pillars and the raspberry pi board. I've also successfully checked continuity between the solder joints on the wolfson card and the pads on the back of the pi board. The nylon screw is securely fastened.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything I can do to investigate further.

The only other clues are these lines in syslog:

Feb 12 20:24:17 raspberrypi kernel: [    5.172128] snd-rpi-wsp snd-rpi-wsp.0: ASoC: can't create pcm WM5102 AiFi :-517

Feb 12 20:24:17 raspberrypi kernel: [    5.183446] snd-rpi-wsp snd-rpi-wsp.0: ASoC: failed to instantiate card -517

Feb 12 20:24:17 raspberrypi kernel: [    5.204848] snd-rpi-wsp snd-rpi-wsp.0: Failed to register card: -517

The D3 green LED is lit on the board when powered, and the D1 red LED is unlit. The only other device I have connected is a USB keyboard.

Cheers in advance.

Update.. my problem was due to a faulty board.

I exchanged it today and the replacement board is working without any problems. I urge anyone who is experiencing the same symptoms and has thoroughly checked the mounting of the audio board, in particular connection with the Pi P5 pads, to do the same.

ragnar.jensen Thanks for the info, I can confirm that these syslog messages were a red herring, because I am still receiving them.
