New to Pi and have a project idea.

Hello Element 14 comunity,

I am new to this whole Raspberry Pi thing, and I've seen some really awsome stuff coming from it. All of the things ive seen have sparked an idea for a home/portable theater system. Ok, heres the consept, a stand-alone unit that I can plug in to my TV and Sound system and have an awsome home theater. Then when I need to go some where I can take the unit and watch movies and such on the go. My Idea is a box with a 10inch LCD that folds up, with an hdmi in for consoles, 2 front facing speakers, 2-4 headphone jacks (for night/privite use), also I was toying with the idea of running 2 Pis one for only raspmc and another as just a computer. Now I know I would need a HDMI switcher, a Wi-Fi addapter, Multible rechargable batteries, and buttons and toggle switches. I have some of the shoping done. Heres a list:

2x 512MB Raspberry Pi Model B

2x Wolfson Audio card

2x Class 10 16GB SD Memory Card

2x Wi-Fi addapters

1x HDMI switcher

1x 10In LCD moniter with HDMI inputs

2x Network Heatsink

2x Cpu Heatsinks

2x Power Heatsinks

3x Rechargeable Batteries (one per Pi and one for the screen)

So heres the questions, Is it a good idea? If so how would I go about getting an enclosure for it? How much would this all run me?

Thank you in advance, Von

If you guys are really just starting out, may I suggest this

Start with the classic Blinky (LED flasher), work toward temp measurement using a DHT11 or DS18B20 , maybe driving an LCD 2 line display and go from there, what I am basically suggesting is start with a few basic projects to get to know how things work, once done you can then start combining these into more advanced projects. there is an adapter from Element14 that will allow you to connect to a breadboard easily.

Good luck, and if you need help, you know where we are

    Peter
