Raspberry pi DSI ( display serial interface )

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Hello.

I was looking through the Raspberry pi components and I noticed a DSI port next to the logo . Later i found that my 7" display fits in that port without the driver board ( It is shown in the picture ).

I inserted the display to the port but it didn't boot up on that display . My question is

1) is there any codes or command that i will run to make the display work .

2)Are there any displays compatible with that port ( i read in some sites that such displays of Rpi's DSI port do not exist )

Thank you

Problem here is that the RPI has both a CSI and DSI port  they do provide an  electrical standard port to connect to Cameras and Displays respectively. However although you can connect the display the outputs are not enabled unless they do a firmware update like they did for the camera and also you will then need code to initialise and drive the LCD panel at least some of which will be specific to the panel  so with no documentation you will not be able to talk to the panel and or configure it.

Once you have that sorted you will then need a device driver for the frame buffer or similar  and then configure your Linux distribution to talk to it as the primary display.(none of this work has been done)

This is why you see those LCDs talking to the Standard but Slower SPI interface rather than the DSI as you would expect. Linux has SPI graphics frame buffer driver already in the kernel and as such it all works independently of RPI support!!
