Wolfson Audio Card+ ?

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Is the Wolfson card likely to be revised to fit a Raspberry Pi Model B+?

It may be possible to hack the current card and drivers to work on B+, but there is no way it will plug in as it was designed to on Model B.

There hasn't been much activity from Wolfson / Farnell/Element14 which hints that a new design is unlikely any time soon.

Does Model B+ effectively mark the death of the Wolfson card?

    Hi,

Yes, the card is being re-worked for the new B+.

Sorry, don't have details of timescales yet.

    Scott

Thanks, that's good news. I'll assume no time-scale means a long wait.

While this is great news... here is my concerns as this effects me and my project.

So there is now going to be TWO WOLFSON CARDS? Or one is going to be dropped, so that you need to use the Br3+?

    OR

The Br2 version will be dropped, thus I need to plan to use the Br3+ if I want to use the Wolfson?

This directly effects my project and know the future of the card, drivers and the Cirrus elephant is of great importance....

Hopefully, someone from Farnell/Element14 will be along to answer that.

Although Raspberry have improved network-usb interface , we need a Wolfson Card to get a pristine audio...
I have tried USB-AudioRecord and it still having glitches, not so bad as the previous Raspberry B, but in audio..you know.. it is  unacceptable.

That's the reason why I need a Wolfson Card+. image

Isn't that the nature of this kind of technology in general though?

Cirrus Logic have obtained Wolfson Microelectronics not so long ago and they would be releasing an audio card for the Raspberry Pi Model B+ next month.

It looks like the Wolfson audio card is available for the A+/B+:

The important question is: are there drivers and/or instructions how to get it to work?

great, thanks for the link to build a kernel with Wolfson audio card from scratch.

Are there any precompiled kernel images for recent raspbian version(s)?

In addition, are there any TFT/LCD/OLED display hats compatible with this Wolfson hat,

    for example https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13051 ?
