Can't get Pi B+ to boot (no video)

Hi,

 

I just received my new Raspberry Pi B+ and can't get it working for the life of me.  I'm worried that it's faulty as the ACT led is permanently on, even when there is no Micro SD card in it.

 

From my other, older Pis I'm assuming that the ACT led should only be on when it is reading and it may be a fault.  Is this correct?

 

By the way, things I've tried:

  • Two different Micro SD cards (Sandisk 4GB, Sandisk Ultra 16Gb)
  • Three different power adapters (generic, iPhone, iPad)
  • Raspbian and NOOBs
  • Three different USB cables

 

All of the above work perfectly with my current Pi Bs but I'm getting no video from the Pi B+.

        I am new to the Raspberry Pi and I am experiencing the same problem.  I have tried to format an 8 GB micro SD on a windows based system and Mac.  To include uploading individual OS to the SD card and the entire NOOBS for options.  Currently the only way that I am getting any video or control of the mouse & key board at the same time, is if I put the original content of the SD card back on when I received it pre-loaded.  The problem with how it was preloaded is that there is 0 Mb of space to go any further. 

        If I find any resolution to this issue I will post.

       Throughout all my research on the issue I was having, I discovered an option for choosing your display preference after turning on your Raspberry Pi.  As follows:

     

    If your display remains blank, you should select the correct output mode for your display by pressing one of the following number keys on your keyboard;


    1. HDMI mode this is the default display mode.  

      2. HDMI safe mode select this mode if you are using the HDMI connector and cannot see

    anything on screen when the Pi has booted.

    3.  Composite PAL mode select either this mode or composite NTSC mode if you are using

    the composite RCA video connector

    4. Composite NTSC mode   


    Give that a try and good luck to you.
