Raspberry set up gone wrong!

MMy son and inare setting up a raspberry pi for the first time. I'm not computer savvy and he is keen to learn. We got things working ok and got to the boot to desktop option but unfortunately we also selected the option that made Scratch the main feature. Now we can't get it to the main home screen. We quit scratch and it tells us the system will shut down in 5 seconds unless we push contrl c which we do but nothing happens. Can anyone help us?

i had this problem when i first got a raspberry pi. here is what i did.

1: first i took my sd card out of my pi and put it in my computer
2: go to this website and download noobs(.zip file)..Downloads | Raspberry Pi
3:on windows desktop click the start button, then go to the sd card you installed it on and right click it, then find format and click it. then a menu should pop up, click format at the bottom.
4:wait for it to format.
5: once noobs is done downloading, take everything from the download folder and drag it onto your sd card.
6:put the sd card back into your pi, and your good to go
