It needs a standard male Micro B plug. That's the one commonly found on modern non-Apple mobile phones which is trapezoidal in shape (not the micro A which is smaller and near-rectangular).

The power cable you are looking for will have a USB Micro B at one end(Which plugs into the Pi). Also most phones(except for the iPhone) today have the USB MicroB jack as well.

Heres a picture of USB MicroB

    microb.jpg

The other end is a USB Type A.

But you might find a power adapter with just a MicroB plug at the end of the wire and a wall socket plug at the other end.

So ideally, you would want a USB A to MicroB cable.

Also heres a quick reference to the plugs

If you cant get it to remain inserted, its mostly a problem with your cable. Try another cable(your phone charger?) and see if it holds, if yes then its time to get a new cable!
