Raspberry PI Camera

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

I received the Element14 Pi Camera today .  I installed it(On a Raspberry B+) and the Led glows a bright red.  I enabled camera support in raspi-config and rebooted.  The camera is not being detected.  I check online and ran across several reports that the camera was not working on the Pi B+.

Can you give me advice on how to proceed.

Thanks in advance for your support.

    Hello amknyc,

Welcome to the element14 Community, I will move this over to the Raspberry Pi Accessories area as it is a better fit.

    Thank you,

    Greetings Allen,

The first thing I would do is, verify the camera is plugged in the right zif port. One is a display port the other is the camera port.

The next thing is make sure it's plugged in the right way. It's easy to plug in the cable the camera backwards in the zif port.

Be very careful with the camera it is very sensitive to static discharge.

I have a camera a a B+. I will check this out on this end as well.

Please let me know if you have additional questions. I'll be happy to help any way I can.

There have been reports of issues concerning the PiCam and the B+. I'll look into that as well.

    Good luck

    -Steve

I have a Pi Camera that i have installed on 2 different Raspberry Pi B+ and it worked without any problems on both of them. The only time that the camera light glows for me is when i send a command to it to take a picture or record a video - and then it only glows when it is actively filming.

    Hi,

I also received an Element14 Pi Camera today, installed it on a Raspberry B+ that was ordered with it, and it's not being detected. However my camera LED is not on.

    vcgencmd get_camera

    supported=1 detected=0

I've updates to the latest firmware (sudo rpi-update) and software updates (sudo apt-get update, sudo apt-get upgrade) with no change. The camera ribbon is plugged into the port between the sound and HDMI connectors with the silver connections facing the HDMI port and the blue strip facing the sound ports.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    John

Turns out the 'sunny connector', which connects the camera to the camera PCB board, was not seated correctly.

I gently lifted this connector off with my finger nail and then pushed it firmly back on. The side closest to the camera looked a little high, so a bit of pressure on that side resulted in a 'click', and it appears to be working now.

    Glad to hear John,

Laptops use the same type of connector. They can be trickie some times.

Allen, you should pay close attention to that connector.

Thanks all for your most helpful responses.

I learned that I had it plugged into the wrong port.  Having switched to the correct port, the camera is now being detected.  That is the good news.

The bad news is when I try to take a still photo  (raspistill -o test.jpg) the camera LED light comes on and stays on without a picture being taken.

Could I have damaged the camera by having it in the wrong port?

    Thanks again

    Allen,

Lets try this again.  The other port is a display port. Even though damage to the camera is possible, double check that the camera ribbon cable is plugged in the  right way and fully inserted in tge connector.  Good luck and let me know how it goes.

    Regards,

    -Steve
