Raspberry Pi 2 Model B - wifi connection problems

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

I am using an Edimax 7811Un dongle.  My home network was recognized in the wifi connectivity setup process and I followed the steps to connect.  I go to the internet browser and do a search and every search returns the "not possible to show this website" screen.  How do I check if I am really connected to my home network?  Is there a step that I may have missed?  Any advice?

Open a terminal and type sudo ifconfig.

You will see your ethernet and wifi connections.

In your wifi connection you must have an ip, if not then you are not connected.

You can also check at your router if your Raspberry Pi is connected.

Thank you - the IP address is missing.  How do I solve that?

If u miss an ip that means that your Pi is not connected to your home network

Check here how to manual connect your wifi. http://raspberrypihq.com/how-to-add-wifi-to-the-raspberry-pi/

I followed both sets of instructions.  Still no luck.  Funny - the Edimax sales pitch for Raspberry Pi is just plug it in, gets recognized and you are set.  No such luck.  The WIFI dongle is flashing away - but I cannot get the IP address issue fixed.  A glitch with the new Raspberry Pi 2 Model B maybe.

When they say recognized they mean the driver for Linux is already installed. Software configuration still not included. Please

copy the results of the following items into a comment:

    • ifconfig
    • /etc/network/interfaces
    • wpa_cli status
    • wpa_cli interface_list

    Thanks,

    Clem

I see a lot of documentation about this adapter.

This is an old post (2012) from the raspberrypi.org http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=7471 try it out.

Also try to have the latest image for you pi. http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/

What distro do you use? Raspbian?
