serial console(ttyAMA0) is not working in pi 2

Hi ,

I have purchased a raspberry pi 2 board recently, I am not able to get the kernel prints while booting. I am getting a junk characters in minicom(even tried on gtkterm). I have tried with both pl220x and ftdi usb to serial converters. I am getting junk characters on both converters. If i press any key in the minicom, I am able to see the junk characters being printed. If i login to pi board through ssh and try to write some data to ttyAMA0, I able to see some junk characters being printed in the minicom. Can anyone in this forum faced this issue. Can anybody please help me to resolve this issue.

What baud rate are you connecting at?

Yes, this looks very much like a mismatched baud rate.

With your "minicom" at say 9600 baud, the first you can try is:

stty -f /dev/ttyAMA0 9600

and then

echo Hello > /dev/ttyAMA0

To test the port.

I expect the port to default to 115200, because that;s what it was when I last checked a few years ago.....

thanks for the reply. According to the cmdline.txt the console baudrate is set to 115200. I tried with stty -F /dev/ttyAMA0 with baud rates 9600,38400, still i am getting junk characters only. By default(first time boot), SD card had an option raspbian OS to install, so currently raspbian OS is running.

If you need the messages, you can go to terminal and enter "dmesg" to see the log or send it to print.
