Line in microphone

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

I just got the card and trying to use the line in with a PC microphone.

I can't get it to work. The incorporated microphone works fine.

If anybody had success using the line in, is there anything special to configure?

What kind of microphone were you using?

Thanks for the help.

    Hi Arnaud,

Most common microphones now days are Electret or Condenser designs and require a small voltage. Sometimes this is on a 3 wire setup. I would not expect to find this voltage available on an input labeled "line input". However I do not know much about the board you are using so it will be a good idea to investigate Clem's link.

No, PC microphones don't work in the Line Input for two reasons. They are wired wrong and even if you rewired one, its output would be too weak. The output from a PC microphone is about one millivolt, whereas the Line In needs several hundred millivolts.

In the link clem57 mentions, I discuss how to make a Hama PC mic work in the black headset jack.
