Pops when starting to play music

Hello

I managed to setup Wolfson DAC and it play really well. However I am experiencing one irritating issue with this DAC.

When I start playing a track I hear pop. Pops are noticeable only when I start track manually, there are no pops when tracks are changing from a playlist.

This make me think that pops occur when software initialize DAC before sending music stream.

I know there are similar problem with "native" and USB DACs and a workaround is to send "empty" stream all the time so pop occur only once.

However Wolfson DAC is neither "native" nor USB, so I could not find any Wolfson specific workaround.

I am out of ideas, any suggestion is much appropriated.

Thank you in advance

    Hello

    Short update: I managed to compile new Cirrus Logic 3.18 kernel with Wolfson DAC support:

    -> Good news: no pops when music starts!

    -> Good news: I have 3.18 kernel which is compatible with B, B+ and B2

    -> Bad news: rare pops are present when you stop playing

    After tracking these pops these are my findings so far:

    -> It is MPD related as I get them only from MPD (bad news for Volumio and Runeaudio)

    -> It is codec related as pops for MP3 are more noticeable and happen more frequently

    With the following MPD configuration pops happen rarely so they are tolerable, however I keep seeking for perfection image

    decoder {

        plugin "mad"

        enabled "no"

    }

    decoder {

       plugin "ffmpeg"

       enabled "yes"

    }

    decoder {

       plugin "mpg123"

       enabled "no"

    }

    Do you have a meter? Maybe time to get one to see if there is a voltage surge before the op amp? I willing to bet you have one. If you do, then why?

    Hello Clem

    I do not have a meter that would allow me to measure and record voltage surge. On the other hand it would only confirm what my ears are hearing image

    I was trying to understand if these pops are specific to my setup of this is a Wolfson "feature".

    In general they are tolerable (far quieter compared to Pi native DAC pops) however I was expecting flawless quality.

    As I wrote after I have migrated kernel to 3.18, I can hear pops only when I stop playing MP3 music from MPD.
