Logging temperature with 1-wire sensor

Hi,
I tried to build the temperature sensor as described in the MagPi29: “ Logging temperature with 1-wire sensor” by David Bannon. I set up my PiB+ with one DS18B20 according to the figure. I loaded the two modules w1-gpio and w1-therm as advised. No error message appeared. Then I tried the command: ls –L /sys/bus/w1/devices but nothing appeared and there is no content in .. /devices. To control that I didn’t crash anything I also remade it on an older PiB. This time I cut the sensor leaving only the resistor as load. I was expecting the “w1_bus_master1” response but no output appeared this time either. Anyone having an idea on how to continue?

This may be too simple, but did you type cd /sys/bus/w1/devices/, then do ls? If it still gives nothing, then it's likely the next sentence.

I've been teaching classes using this device for a year and the only time I had an issue is when I updated my SD card last month and discovered the sensor did not work until I did an update-dist and then an install raspberrypi-ui-mod.

I guess that by "update-dist" you mean the "apt-get update" - "apt-get upgrade" sequence. So I have done this but I am not familiar with the "install raspberry-ui-mod" command. It results in an error output "missing destination file operand"

There is a apt-get update-dist as well.

Thanks for the help but I am still having problems. Am I right in thinking that I should see the content "w1_bus_master1" in ..../devices even if I haven't attached anything to the IO?
Anyway I will try to find a new DS18B20 so this may take a while! Thanks so far.

So I am up&running. The new sensor did not change anything so I started all over again from the latest "2015-05-05-raspbian-wheezy.img". In the raspi-config I did not enable the "Device Tree" and it works!
