Is the Raspberry Pi Forum Broken ?

o.thornwall
o.thornwall over 3 years ago

Hello All !

I recently purchased a Raspberry Pi 4, only to find out the wifi does not work.

I purchase it from CanaKit.

Sadly to say CanaKit are no help other then they told me to "Go to the RP forum and ask them" (or something almost exactly like that)

So I tried to log into the RP Forum only to find after about 15 tries, I got no where. Can't get in or cant even get a email response for the forum administration.

Anybody know what is going on with the RP forum ?

And does anyone have any good suggestions on how to (or where to) get my RP4 fixed ?

Thank you all ! Standing by !

I have no problem finding the website. My problem is how to get in ?

Or is the RP forum broken to where no one can get in ?

    I can't get a response from the admins ?

    What gives ?

I can see the timestamps on the messages on the forum for today, yesterday, etc, like this example.

It's hard to know what problem you're having, could you copy-paste (and ideally a screenshot if possible) what error you're seeing?

I'm not getting an error. I tried to register many times. I can not get an email verification of my registration. I can't get a response from the Admins.

what else can I say ?

It's like what ever I do it goes un-noticed.

I don't know their registration process so I guess I can no longer help with that unfortunately, now that you have specified what specific problem you had accessing their site.

Incidentally, if you're trying to contact raspberrypi.org for a replacement or warranty repair, then it's highly unlikely they will help, because the resellers or distributors are supposed to do that.

If you're looking for tech assistance like troubleshooting (i.e. if you're not certain that the wifi issue is a hardware fault), then you may as well place the detail (keyword is _detail_) here, and others can look at it while the raspberrypi.org registration is still underway.

If you're looking for a replacement or repair, it's the responsibility of the seller legally surely? It depends on the country where you bought it.

If you were looking for a refund rather than replacement, then you could probably sell it for more than you purchased it for, even with wifi issue perhaps, since there is a global shortage of Pi's, so you'd get back more than a refund from the original seller.

    Thanks for the reply.

As I stated in my original post, CanaKit is offering no trouble shooting support. They only told me to go to the RP Forum for software support. I'm not sure how they could be sure it's a software problem. It takes me 3 email to CanaKit for every 1 response from them. .  They said they would give me a refund if I shipped it back. They have offered to pay for return shipping, but that does not fix I problem. I purchased a RP4 because I have use for one. I did not know I was going to receive a noun working unit. Nor did I ever expect such terrible service from CanaKit.

As for the problem, as I remember from the last time I tried to get online with it (been a couple of weeks) I had the wifi icon on the top right of the desktop. I click it and I see my local network, but it does not react to the pass word.

What does that sound like ?

And why can I not get on the RP forum ?  Another mystery ?

    Regarding:

"I had the wifi icon on the top right of the desktop. I click it and I see my local network, but it does not react to the pass word. What does that sound like ?"

There's a lot going on in the hardware and software, for you to see your SSID appear. It exercises the hardware and the OS a huge amount to get the SSID indicated. Since you state that you do see the SSID appear, it sounds to me like there's a 90% chance the hardware might be fine.

There's a list of things to try here:

    https://support.thepihut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360014695877-Raspberry-Pi-won-t-connect-to-WiFi

Even things that may seem benign, like power supply, are actually important. What precise model of power supply are you using?

Thank you for the article. I'm going to try it in the next few days since I have very very limited internet access.

I purchase the complete kit from CanaKit. I could show you a screen shot but I don't know how to post one.

The Power supply is brand new Canakit.

Where do I find the "Terminal window" ?
