RPI 5/Videocore VII hardware encoding

Question

I saw in the FAQ that there's hardware H.265 and VC1 decoding on the Raspberry Pi 5, but what about encoding? A full list of hardware accelerated encoding/decoding codecs would be great!

 I agree, there's not a lot of information on this at present, though I believe h264 is entirely software based. H.265 and VC1 are the only confirmed hardware decoder codecs.
