Raspberry Pi 4 not responding. Only shows RED light. No green light

bugtech

Hi.

I was working on my newly bought Raspberry pi 4. Suddenly after shutting it down to remove the camera cable, It is not responsive anymore. I have read various posts regarding this issue but no help.

I have tried 3 different SD cards but still its not responding. What can be the issue? or how can i fix this?

Thank you

Unfortunately, i only have 1 Pi. I tried the same SD card on another board (Not a Pi) . The SD cards work fine there.

Noted on that. Have you checked the power supply? And also try checking the SD Card slot as well.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi bugtech

    That's unfortunate.

Do you have another computer where you can check the SDCards? Ideally a Linux computer. There's a handy command called 'f3probe' that can check the status of the sdcard which may be useful for you here.

The problem either resides with the sdcard, the raspberry pi power circuitry, or the power supply you're using.

    I am using a 5V type C power adapter.

Is it a Raspberry Pi power adapter?

Does it try to negotiate USB-PD? (I believe the Pi 4 doesn't support this)

Does it provide at least 5v at 2a?

Have you tested it with another device?

Do you have another one that you can test with?

Do you have a bench power supply that can provide 5v at 2a? A good way to test the Raspberry Pi can be to connect to the 5v and ground pin on the Pi ( Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Default GPIO Pinout with PoE Header ) if you have a controlled power source to see if it can boot from the GPIO pins.

There is no sign of Green light.

Are there any signs of any lights?

If by chance you have the opportunity to use a thermal camera, you could try using it on the board to see if any components show heat when you apply power.

have you examined the camera socket? maybe something has happened during cable disconnecting (eg faulty socket introducing short circuit when no cable)... maybe reconnecting the camera (or cable only) may change something if the last operation was cable disconnection (or the camera may be fried by the damaged rpi - so the cable only could be safer)

or even maybe there was some custom camera configuration done that is preventing booting without it? Considering that (IRRC) in RPI the GPU starts the board, maybe it wants the camera back to proceed with booting? but is's only a wild guess...

Yes it is a Raspberry Pi adapter. It worked fine for a week.

    Yes!

Yes it works fine with Jetson.

Yes it shows very dim red and green light. and the IC gets too hot with it.

With Type  C power. It shows only solid RED light. No sign of GREEN light.

Sounds like a fundamental component has shorted out, unfortunately.

It appears to me we, from the testing you have arrived at the definition of a brick with a red LED. CRAP! I hate when that happens.
