USB SSD midia input HDMI output

Is it possible to use a pi to input video films saved on a SSD through the USB input, then output the SSD content via the HDMI output to a TV. At the moment I have to take my laptop when travelling to do this, not very convenient. If it is possible what model of pi would I need, what software would I use. Is there anything else I should be aware of.

raspberry pi runs Linux, so it can play movies using any standard media player, and as a standard video output is hdmi, video would be played using it...

I don't know if it would be better than a laptop - one would need: raspberry pi, power supply, mouse, keyboard and some ssd to usb adapter; I would prefer some (maybe second hand) small and light laptop instead

Most Raspberry Pi's would be able to do this, probably at lower cost than a laptop and a bit smaller. You would need a touch screen display hat such as a Pimoroni Hyperpixel and a power supply. It could fit in a large pocket.
