Rasp Pi 3 - Max SD card size

marcuso
marcuso over 9 years ago

Hi,

I tried countless times to get the Rpi2 to boot from a 64Gb SD 10 card, on all different Linux OS flavours but to no avail. Does the RPi3 work with anything bigger than a 32Gb SD card ? And if so whats the max size.

Thanks,

Marcus

I don't believe there is a cap. But keep in mind that any SD card 32GB or larger is probably formatted exFAT, which is incompatible with the RPi. If so, before attempting to install an OS, the SD card needs to be reformatted as FAT32. slope unblocked

It depends how you're writing an image to the SDCard, because writing raspbian to it will wipe out any filesystem, fat32 or otherwise, though the /boot/ partition is, I think, fat32 Slight smile
