ethernet and usb port broken on my raspberry pi 2

amine92

Hello,

As the title says, I've had a Raspberry Pi 2 Model B. At first, It started working well, with RJ45 cable connected to the Ethernet port and a mouse connected to one of the USB ports. However, after almost a week, the two little lamps in the Ethernet port turned off and the USB ports stop working as they are all broken.

Any help would be highly appreciated !

It's a bit difficult to investigate without a working mouse and keyboard.

If it boots to the desktop then it sounds as though the software drivers are not loaded. If you have a multimeter, make sure the 5V pin on the GPIO has 5V on it. If it does, use another computer to reflash the SD card with the latest Raspbian.

These are all USB peripherals and fed via a thermal resettable fuse

try powering down the board for a day or two (The resettable fuse can sometimes take a while to heal itself) and see if that helps

If not then you will need to start probing around  the board to ry figure a few things out, namely if there are power supply issues

There should be nothing wrong with running the board for extended periods of time under normal loads, I have one running 24x7 for nearly a year now with no adverse issues.

My guess would be that somehow you managed to blow up the LAN95xx chip (i don't remember the xx, that xx is different between the B and the B+ by the way.). That would in one blow disable both USB and ethernet, as the chip acts both as an USB hub and as the ethernet controller. If your USB fuses would be blown, then it is odd that also ethernet has stopped working. If your main fuse is blown then it is odd that the PI does something at all. (but the fact that you say that USB and ethernet are not working makes me think that you still have HDMI output.... )

The LAN chip is powered from 3.3V. If your 3.3V powersupply on the board was broken then the SD card wouldn't work either. So if we assume a single thing has failed then I would say everything points at the LNA95xx chip.
