Pull request to include Cirrus driver in official RPi kernel

I've submitted a pull request to the RPi kernel to include the reworked Wolfson/Cirrus driver in the official RPi kernels

It would be great if some of you could compile and test this PR and give some feedback on Github, maybe we can finally have out-of-the-box support for these soundcards after - ahem - about three years

Hi all,

so you say the Cirrus driver codes are now in the official Raspbian kernel source tree? I suppose there is no readily available image yet - if i want to build a homegrown kernel, following the instructions at https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/linux/kernel/building.md , which Git branch would i use to build from? Or any other easy path? Guess its some 15+ years ago since i built my last Linux kernel ;-)

The Cirrus driver is now included in the next firmware tree: https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware/commit/ca3422d28e33db6e17016874befdea4ee70358c1

On Raspbian run the following command to get it:
sudo BRANCH=next rpi-update

If you want to compile yourself use the 4.9 kernel tree https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/tree/rpi-4.9.y

Hi Hias,

tx a lot, compiling the kernel from the rpi-4.9.y branch (with default settings); and using the guideline from your webpage to activate the C/L card went smoothly! Now playing MP3s using VLC, just great!
