I think there is not a particular limit as the accepted size depends on the operating system charactirsitcs. I have used a PI 2 with the same configuration as yours with a 500 Gb and 1 Tb hard disk without problems.

The 'pi runs Linux. A reasonably recent version of the kernel. So for "bigger" systems it has already been necessary for a while to "fix" the limits that are encountered at 2T(*) and 16Tb(#). So... my guess is that you're good for a few Pb.... (<- more disk than you can afford to buy.... if you sell the house).
(*) 32 bit block numbers, where the blocks are 512 bytes.
(#) Something to do with the ext3/ext4 filesystem.
