Optical sensor to perform a vertical scanning

Hello,

 

I am looking for an optical sensor to measure short distances that can rotate or otherwise move to perform a vertical scan over one line.

 

I wish to make a 3D scanner by rotating an object on a platform. A sensor should perform a vertical scan each time the object is rotated. One option is to move this sensor vertically by fixing it to a column. The other option, which is what I am more interested in, is to find a sensor that already rotates on its own to perform a swipe or vertical scan.

 

Preferably, I am looking for a sensor that outputs digital signals, and whose output is the distance measured. I wish to use a Raspberry Pi to control the sensor, so if it is digital it will make my work much easier.

 

If you know about any device that does this, I will appreciate your assistance.

    I am not familiar with LEDDAR. For what I read, I am guessing that its accuracy would be fine. Their detection range is too big, though (up to 40 meters). I am looking for something that can accurately scan within 50 cm.

     

    Forwhat I understood, their technology does not perform scans (or swipes, however you wish to call it); instead, it senses an area all at the same time. For my application, I was thinking about something that only senses over a line at a time, not an area. However, if I place one of these sensors as to scan vertically, it could help. Do you know how do these sensors output information? What data format do they use?

     

    Anyway, LEDDAR products are out of my budget. I am looking for a sensor that costs no more than 100 USD.

     

    Regarding accuracy, since I am attempting to scan objects within a 20 cm radius, I would not expect an error greater than 1 mm.

     

    About the data rate, anything that can operate around 60Hz will be fine. Greater data rates would be nice. Or even better, a device with an adjustable data rate.

     

    Thank you very much for the information on LEDDAR. I will search more about their products. Perhaps, one of them suits my project.
