wifi sensor on raspberry 3 max range

Hello, my name is Renan.

 

 

I'm working on a Project with raspbarry pi 3 to communicate 2 traffic light and i need to know whats is the Max range of the BCM43438 Wifi, because i really need to know if i can communicate them !

  • That will depend upon a lot of factors.

    Are they line of sight? Is it indoors or outdoors?

    What are you using as an Access Point? (poor access point = poor range), remember WiFi is a 2 way protocol !

     

    in general I would expect about 15 mtrs  maximum indoors using a domestic access point. You could always add a radio module like the Xbee or similar to get longer range or if it reallt long range and you don't want to worry too much about data rates, look up LoRa radio links.

     

    Plenty available on E14.

    While I don't know anything about the XBee, keep in mind you can use an USB Wi-Fi dongle.
