ashford, you need to connect to your home wifi network from your Raspberry pi 3(RPi3) via you local Access Point(AP).
enable the wifi adaptor on the RPi3 and find your Wirreles SSID.
Connect to it with the proper credentials and check which ip address were issued to you from your dhcp on your access point(AP).
thep you can attempt to connect to your RPi3 with the ip address vi ssh on VNC Viewer.
ashford, should you want to connect to your RPi3 with VNC Viewer and connect directly to the Graphical Desktop Then you first nee to download and install TightVncServer on your RPi3 by following these few steps:
1. Make sure you are connected to the internet.
2. sudo apt-get update
3. sudo apt-get install tightvncserver
Please note: When asked to confirm "Y"...please pres Y for yes....obviously
4. vncserver :1

And thats it?
