mSSD in the desktop case

mindwave
mindwave over 7 years ago

OK, I was pretty excited about the desktop case

why? yeah....I dunno, looked cool and all my friends are amazed by the raspi

plus Im teaching my boy about programming and robotics so having his OWN pc that he can code on that will react JUST LIKE the robot/home controller etc is really my goal\\one of the toughest things about being a "maker" is the ramp up or getting ready part.

SO he has one al put together loaded with everything he needs than he can si down and learn, instead of trying to remember whats on that drive and how much space do i need, etc.

so everything shows up and i order the ssd and I am waiting and it gets here, ordedred a brand name so I knew it would wotrk and thats whenZ I realized that something aint right.

looked through the manual nothing

poked the sight nada

I bought the SATA SSD, once I get my music pc running this will be a great boot, mean time no go.

So I start reading up on SSD, and looking at some pix i could find on the web (Source unknown) and hey that looks LIKE an M.2!

So i go back to the web and order an M.2

NOPE that aint it either try one more google search ande find a YT video going OVER the different SSD formaTS, WHO CALLS THIS A STANDARD?

so now I ordered this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013LGLWRE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

should be here tomorrow. yeah I know its pretty cheap, my my wife is getting a tad suspiscious

PLEASE someone tell me, is that the proper form? or can you sebnd me a link?

who knew thier so many types I would have asked first........buut why is thee NOTHING in any documentdd????????

your help is appreciated

If I'm getting this right, you ordered M.2 SATA SSD and not the mSATA it requires?

If so then the Amazon item you linked is indeed mSATA - that's what you want.

mSATA is basically for mobile devices, it has a smaller form factor and lower power consumption than the standard, full size SATA drives.

It is also a previous version compared to the M.2 (NGFF) drive you referenced.

Hopefully it should be ok, let us know and good luck.

    Differences here
