Looking for raspberry pi developer to help with exciting project!

darrenr89
darrenr89 over 7 years ago

Hey there everyone! I have been working on an awesome project that I’m hoping will help grow the raspberry pi community but I need some help with drivers/ firmware. I’m planning on running a Kickstarter later this year but need some help to get the project off the ground. Anyone out there with some experience in this field that is willing to help?

http://blog.unassembledkits.com/2018/02/unassembled-kits-what-hell-are-you.html?m=1

The above blog post gives you a bit of an idea of what I’m trying to do but would like to talk to anyone interested! Please PM me to discuss the compensation for the project.

Thanks,

Darren

Sounds a little bit like LittleBits:

    https://www.littlebits.com/

    Or SnapCircuits:

    https://www.elenco.com/product/snap-circuits-light/

This might be a good site to see if your idea is marketable.

    https://www.electronickits.com/

    and

    http://www.youdoitelectronics.com/maker-diy-technolgy/kits/non-solder

However, I do like the idea of a non solder non jumper wire option for folks getting started in Electronics and Coding.

With regards to STEM, I'm seeing more of a focus to move to STEAM where Art is adding in the mix of the standard STEM learning path.

Yes you are correct, it is similar in concept to them but will be drastically different in implementation.

the idea of my product is to add lots of functionality to the raspberry pi which it doesn’t have natively and make it easier to start a lot of different projects without having to buy lots of different components.

Projects built with the Unassembled Prime will also be able to have cases built for them and therefore will resemble a finished product while those other concepts are limited to certain applications due to their form factor.

What kind of projects have you worked on? If you want, we can continue this conversation over email at info@unassembledkits.com.

Well, 'lots' is a relative term. There are lots of projects and STEM/STEAM kits available for the Raspberry Pi. Being new to the Raspberry Pi, I suggest you might want to look at the official Raspberry Pi site, as well as the MagPi magazine site.  The RasPi Weekly newsletter is another good site to check out for projects that others have developed.  https://www.raspiweekly.com/

Could you share any details with regards to an example of the 'lots' you are referring to?

Are you willing to pay for this development work you are seeking?

This is true and yeah, I am aware of a lot of the products on the market already but I would be lying if I said I knew about every single kit out there.

im aiming to create a board that allows the user to create many projects simply and quickly and as I said not limit them through the form factor.

stuff off the top of my head that I would like to have it set up for include but are not limited to:

    - weather station, portable/AC powered

    - remote control car

    - retropie gaming console which could use original controls if wanted

    - retropie desktop / proper sized arcade

    - retropie handheld gaming system

    - Bluetooth speaker / radio

    - IOT devices or control panel

    - plant watering management station

    - automated pet feeder

To be able to account for all of this would take a ton of work but that is some of the potential I see for the product. And that is only a selection of ideas and there are more that are definitely possible. And also as it is easy to connect or disconnect all of the components, you will be able to reuse the raspberry pi and my product between multiple projects.

i just want to make it easier for people to make cool fun stuff that they actually practically want to use. As well as learn stuff along the way.

I am prepared to pay for the work for sure.

Some I would reference would be:

BOSEBuild - Bose diy Bluetooth Speaker (Not RasPi based though):

    https://build.bose.com/products/bosebuild-speaker-cube

    Google AIT Kits:

    Vision Kit: https://aiyprojects.withgoogle.com/vision/

    Voice Kit: https://aiyprojects.withgoogle.com/voice/

Raspberry Pi Oracle Weather Station: https://www.raspberrypi.org/education/weather-station/faqs/#_Toc456372945

and then you have the GrovePi kit:

    https://www.amazon.com/Seeedstudio-GrovePi-Starter-Kit-Raspberry-certified/dp/B01BRCEWV2

Creating a kit that differentiates from what has already been done would be difficult but not entirely impossible.  Polling a good set of STEM/STEAM instructors would be beneficial.

A good podcast to tap into STEM stuff is Stemiverse with Dr. Peter Dalmaris.

Thank you for that information. I will be sure to reference those kits going forward. The GrovePi kit is actually very interesting and I hadn't come across that one yet. I agree that what I am trying to do is hard. I am very much stretching my abilities but I enjoy the challenge and am really passionate about this product. I was actually at the Maker Faire in San Francisco a couple weekends ago to get a sense of what people thought. I received a very positive response from all kinds of people. I have a ways to go before I can bring this product to life, but I am partnering up with lots of smart people and I think I will be able to make it happen.

Do you happen to have the coding experience that I am looking for? Or do you know someone else that does? Right now, I am just trying to get some working examples with the initial prototype that I have in preparation for the Kickstarter.

Getting out and speaking with folks at a Maker Faire is good, but you may want to do more marketing research to see if your idea will fly and certainly before you attempt a Kickstarter.

As far as my background is concerned, I'm a Software Engineer by career and education and have worked on everything between Linux Device Drivers to RESTful APIs for controlling test equipment to writing automated tests using BASH. Perl and Python to creating websites.  I would have to see a fleshed out Requirements Model and an outline of an Architecture to know if it is something I would take on. However, I suspect the project will be much bigger than you are currently imagining and you may need a team of folks to work on this.

Is there a Help Wanted section on element14?

I get what you mean and to be honest, Kickstarter is going to be my market research. I think it is one of the best tools out there to get a really good sense of your market as long as you design your kickstarter campaign correctly and budget it very well.

You sound more than qualified for what I require but you are correct, when I try and implement the whole product, I will need at least a couple people. But right now, I am just trying to develop a MVP and create some demonstrations. There is only a few elements that I think I will need which someone with significant experience like yourself would probably only take a few hours to figure out.

My email is info@unassembledkits.com and I would like to hear from you to discuss some more details if it interests you?

I haven't seen a help wanted section yet, but it is probably out there somewhere.
