We have exciting news for anyone working on Pi projects!

 

The element14 Community’s PiRack Connect Four Challenge is open for project submissions until October 18th, and we are offering you a chance to get started on your entry with a free PiRack! The winner will receive the Arduino Robot Development Kit. The winner will also receive the Connect Four board game, a vertical checkers game.

 

The PiRack is an expansion board that allows the connection of 4 I/O boards to the Raspberry Pi. It also enables the Pi Camera Module to be used at the same time as the expansion boards.

 

If you are interested in getting a free PiRack in exchange for entering the PiRack Connect Four Challenge, please respond to this post with an outline and description of your project idea. The element14 Community team will review the ideas and let you know if you are selected to receive a free PiRack.

  • I'm building a system where in which a GSM sim card is used with a GSM module to output ASCII text of any SMS messages that come in and are printed to a small compact thermal printer

    I hope to release the code as open source, its for a project for one of my qualifications and needs to be fairly advanced

  • I recently bought a wide variety of sensors (thermometers, humidity sensor, barometer, accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope, light sensors) from Newark that I plan to build into a data collecting platform to be mounted in a capsule that will be sent into near-space via helium-filled weather balloon. It will be loaded with GPS and RF antennas to track the mission with live telemetry and to aid in recovery of the capsule. I will also have Raspberry Pi cameras onboard to document the journey, and I will use all this sensor and location data to reconstruct the flight path in 3D (with Google Earth) and show the correlation between these measurements in the context of a near-space flight. Having a PiRack would be really useful because these sensors all use I/O ports on the GPIO header, and the wiring would become really crowded without being able to break out the GPIO into multiple expansion ports.
