We have exciting news for anyone working on Pi projects!

 

The element14 Community’s PiRack Connect Four Challenge is open for project submissions until October 18th, and we are offering you a chance to get started on your entry with a free PiRack! The winner will receive the Arduino Robot Development Kit. The winner will also receive the Connect Four board game, a vertical checkers game.

 

The PiRack is an expansion board that allows the connection of 4 I/O boards to the Raspberry Pi. It also enables the Pi Camera Module to be used at the same time as the expansion boards.

 

If you are interested in getting a free PiRack in exchange for entering the PiRack Connect Four Challenge, please respond to this post with an outline and description of your project idea. The element14 Community team will review the ideas and let you know if you are selected to receive a free PiRack.

  • I am building an Echo Link RF internet Ham Radio kit. That will use a Baofeng 2m/70cm hand held radio as part of the echo link radio node. With the Pi and the Pi rack and other Pi accessories. It will link to the internet via echolink using the Pi and the Baofeng radio. You will use another Handheld Ham radio to logg onto the system through the echolink nodes. Basically you are turning it into its own IRLP DStar radio using the Pi.

    Also my Son who is 13 and has ADHD, an autstic spectrum disorder, mood disorder and Learning disability is building a robot using the Pi and survo motors. He has it all lined  out and parts that he needs for it for the school robotics team. Its not a cheap robot.

  • I'm building a home automation system. First of all it should replace my old heating control terminal. In addition it is possible to connect wireless sensor and actuator nodes (i.e. temperature sensors, humidity sensors, electronic thermostats, etc.). The whole system is configurable and monitorable over a webinterface.

  • I have build a toy car with the raspberry pi and a bit of code I wrote in c. It is controlled remotely with an iPhone app. It is driven by 8 AA batteries and can move at a slow walking pace. I intend to put instructions on this website on how to build it. But here's the cool part: I have attatched a webcam and use some software called motion so that by putting raspberry_pi_ip_address:8081 into another computer's web browser, you can see what the raspberry pi car is seeing. So by controlling the car with your phone, and seeing what the car sees with another computer, you can have fun spying!
