METCAL GT90-HP-T4 Soldering Station - Unboxing and Setup
Welcome! I have the chance to test and review a new Metcal GT90-HP-T4 Soldering Station, and would like to thank Metcal and Element14 for this opportunity!
Metcal is respected for delivering high end benchtop soldering solutions, specifically as a top-tier manufacturer of fixed temperature inductive soldering stations. The GT series is a recent addition, expanding the lineup to include soldering stations with adjustable temperature. The GT90 provides 90 Watts of inductive, variable soldering heat.
I have been running the GT90 through it's paces and making comparisons along the way with a 50 Watt Weller WESD51 which has been my soldering workhorse for the past two decades. My review of the GT90 is well underway and is expected to be ready in the next week or two. In the interim I wanted to share my experience through some unboxing pictures.
Unboxing the Metcal GT90-HP-T4 Soldering Station
The parcel containing the Metcal GT90 was shipped and arrived promptly, very well packaged with the GT90 in perfect condition. Attention to detail is apparent in the packaging with custom designed material and tightly secured wrapping. I appreciated the boxes within boxes.

Included in the package was everything I had expected:
- GT90 Power Station
- GT-HP-T4UF Handpiece, with adapters for variable and fixed temperature cartridges
- GT-WS Work Stand, with sponge and brass wool
- GT-HC-T4 Heater Cartridge
- 48V, 120W Power Adapter with power cord
- Cartridge/Tip Remover pad
- Quick Start Guide and Feature Sheet
But there was more! The standard GT90-HP-T4 station does not include tips, however I was pleased to find that the roadtest package added several for me to sample:

- GT4-CN0010A, Conical (1.0 x 14mm)
- GT4-CN0002S, Conical (0.2 x 10mm)

Well, I could hardly wait to turn it on, so I did not hold off any longer and was instantly impressed as to how quickly the Metcal GT90-HP-T4 Soldering Station would reach temperature … and hold it. Much faster than the WESD51!
