STMicroelectronics, WURTH Elektronik and Element14 have created a Special Project which comprises an STMicroelectronics Motor Control Evaluation kit.
- EVLSPIN32G4-ACT Motor control Evaluation Board
- STLINK-V3SET Programmer/debugger
- STEVAL-STWINBX1, STWIN.box - SensorTile Wireless Industrial Node Development Kit
- STEVAL-C34KAT1 Vibrometer and temperature sensor expansion kit
- Multicomp MP710256 power supply (not so easy to get with 10A, 30V and 110V supply at a reasonable price :)
- DB59M024035 BLDC motor from Nanotek

My focus in this post is the STLINKV3-SET

This video looks at the programmer components needed to of course "Program" STM32 or STM8 devices and what software is needed being the STM32CubeIDE Integrated Development Environment for STM32 and the STM32CubeProgrammer for all STM32
Sorry there is an echo coming from within my new recording setup, I didn't realise until editing, I have it sorted for later videos (I hope :) )
Both downloads can be found on the ST.com website
You have to have an account with STMicro in order to download their software but it is free, if your an individual and your asked for a company name, just put "None" so you can proceed with registration if there is an issue.
There were some issues with the downloads on my new lab recording machine, when I tried clicking on the link for downloading the software I was not logged in and no matter what I tried it would not let me log in. on my editing machine it works without any issue. both are uptodate Windows 11 Pro and high end cpu;s etc. I have not figured out yet what the issue is. (It is not the browser or firewalls and both computers are on the same home fiber subnet)
the download zips are large 1.2GB for the IDE and 254MB for the programmer so make sure you have room
they are available for many operating systems for example this is the programmer download section. the IDE has the same options

If you have an older version of the IDE or programmer installed I would suggest updating it to the latest.
A WORD OF WARNING, Many of the ST videos are based on earlier versions of software, scrips and python vs windows cmd line so it is possible some gotchas may pop up from time to time, especially when we get to the Sensor board and Motor board. (Don't ask how many days was spent thinking I was doing something wrong until I took a very close look at paths etc for examples ) so I will be providing my updated command lines etc as I come across disparity from video to reality. At some point ST changed from python being included with the evaluation/demo files to a completly separate download but the videos are not updated. additionally dome are not windows cmd line vs a python .py file.
There will be several videos to follow looking at each hardware stage of the tool chain so "Programmer" - Industrial Sensor Board" - "Motor Control Board" and finally the Sensor extension board. I will also be looking at the Wurth Components used on the EVLSPIN32G4-ACT Motor control with regard to fit for purpose in this design and then overall sense of quality for all modules as well as ease of use. I will add links to the other videos and descriptions as I go so stay tuned.
