Why Do Some RoadTest Winners Stop Logging In?

19 Mar 2017

It's Sunday morning and I'm catching up on things that I don't always get a chance to do during office hours where I'm in meetings, on the phone, answering questions, etc.

This morning I sent follow up emails to RoadTest winners who have not posted Reviews.

Of the 12 emails I sent, 11 were to RoadTester winners who stopped logging into element14 about one month after their respective RoadTest enrollments closed. The 12th stop logging in a few months after.

The reason for this behavior would be pure conjecture. But  there does seem to be a correlation between not logging in and not writing a review.

All that I can reasonably conclude is now I have to check to see if a prospective winner has logged in and take that into consideration when I offer my recommendations to a supplier.

Don, I try to use TMs. I welcome their applications. And I do get much better responses with TMs. But I have to balance the needs of the suppliers and the need to offer new people the opportunity in order…

Are these relatively new members who had perhaps only created an Element14 account recently in order to apply for the road test in the first place? It's sad that you are having to go to these lengths to…

I commented on the use of TM's on your other comment. To grow the community the use of known good members is a great idea, the definition is the issue. Points over time, involvement etc, this does not…

because I'm missing a blue star hanging from a gold ribbon next to my name

Sorry but this is not the first time you've mentioned this ...

    Is there a problem?

I assume then you would disqualify members like myself from these road tests to protect the vender because I'm missing a blue star hanging from a gold ribbon next to my name, even though I've been here and involved for a long time, completed numerous road tests successfully etc.. ?

I really don't think that is what DAB was meaning at all. He's highlighting ONE source of reliable road testers. There many other proven people such as yourself who would (and do) make excellent road testers already, this isn't about whether you are a TM or not getting you into road tests, it's just ONE measure which could be used to help put members in the "trusted road tester" category, it's certainly not being suggested that this is the only way.

    Best Regards,

    Rachael

Agreed, but you still need to protect the Vendor.

If you choose unverified road testers and they fail to perform, the vendor gets disappointed and stops providing the devices.

That is why I suggest using a system where you bring new people in gradually in small numbers to become trusted road testers.

Meanwhile let your trusted agents do the reviews to set the standard of a good road test and to demonstrate the level of effort expected of a new road tester.

You can then assess the new road tester to see if they have the capability to do a good road test.  If so, add them to the list of trusted testers.

I am not just highlighting TM's as the only source of road testers.  I am just trying to preserve the road test capability by showing a way to keep both the vendors and the newbies happy.

.... but what I'm getting at are the lever 5s or 6s and up that are here quite a bit have done blogs, have done reviews all on a consistent basis and done them well. Also and this is the big one they have been here a while (more than a year or two) and have been participating throughout that time, not just for points but to be part of the community.

I completely agree with you here. I think there are a lot of community members who contribute regularly and have a lot of really good content in their blogs etc who aren't TM's and they should have just as good a chance of road test selection. I think we're 100% in agreement on this image

I think it's just a case of how to determine who falls into the above group? So it might be a case that depending on road test equipment value the percentages of people from different trust groups gets skewed one way or the other. So I used the term "Trust Group" and to me there would be a few tiers here. The top tier would include TM's and non TM's who have a strong proven history in the community. The bottom tier would be new members with little history of contribution. There would be probably a couple of tiers in between and members with less history of strong contributions would likely end up in those unless there were strong indications for them being considered for other tiers (e.g. Somebody who was a well known contributor from another forum or a popular YouTube channel etc).

These are just my ideas, I'm sure rscasny has been thinking a lot about how to do this so he's probably got a bunch of ideas of his own on how to best do this. We'll have to wait and see what he decides to do on this front.
