Introducing OFF THE BENCH RoadTests - What Products Do You Prefer to Test?

rscasny
rscasny over 1 year ago

About a month ago, I introduced an idea I call "Off The Bench" Roadtests.

Basically, I would reserve a few roadtest slots per year for products that aren't primarily used on your electronics workbench. It's a fairly simple idea.

In this discussion/poll, I wanted to drill down to more specific products, based on the feedback I had previously received from you.

I have a series of polls below, grouped by product types, more or less. I offer two products and the option to suggest an entirely different product in the comments section.

I will take your voting back to our product management, and I could start lining up "off the bench" products in the coming year.

So, if you have the time, vote as little or as much as you have time for.

Thank you in Advance.

Regarding the vacuum / duster. I know it is more expensive, but I have a Datavac Pro. It's both. I think it would be a better option for a test since it is dual-function. (I'm biased on this one since…

In the heat gun category, I would really like to see a hot plate road test. Newark sells a number of them. They have several uses but few people actually have one because they can be pretty expensive.…

The first tool kit, and the duster, show this error, when viewed from Belgium:

    image

The duster is available in the shop though: https://be.farnell.com/metrovac/mv-ed500/metrovac-ed-500-electric-duster/dp/4223521?st=duster

Couldn't find the field maintenance kit, so that may not be available in the shop.

they contains only newark code embedded. Right click link, Copy URL, extract code, find it yourself on newark.com.

    Maintenance kit is: https://www.newark.com/proskit-industries/22-11690/fieldmaintenance-service-kit-with/dp/24T4077?ost=24t4077

I had my marketing hat on. For a visitor that may want to buy the product, a working link is better than an  (in the case of the duster, incorrect)  "not available in your country" one.

I would like to add some storage containers like the units which you use when shipping Experimenting with ... components. Farnell/newark have plenty of these storage boxes but documentation is very brief, do not contain precisely specified dimension and my opinion is that buying these on Farnell/Newark looks like blind shot in most cases. So reviews can be helpfull in this area, I think.

For example this one: https://www.newark.com/multicomp-pro/d00417/box-storage-22-compartment/dp/58M5461, Look picture:

    image

Documentation and store page mention only overal dimentsions and internal dimension are not mentioned. It has blocks of at least 4 different sizes and there are slots which makes it even adjustable. But sizes of these internals are not mentioned anywhere. You can only gues it. How many components fit it? Can you remove some yellow barriers and make long slot for storing screwdriver? Will Arduino shields fit cells? How many adjustable separators are included? So many questions....

It would be nice to RoadTests like this and show them with more details. Basicaly this applies to most product from this category, I think: https://www.newark.com/c/tools-production-supplies/storage-products-accessories

Sorry about the newark only links. IK selected the product and then I found out some of them I guess are only sold on Newark. Let me try to fix it.

These are great cases. I have bought about 20 of them for various storage options (electronics parts, shop hardware, craft supplies).

In the adhesives/tape category, I would suggest hot glue - there are lots of colors available....including clear and metallics.
