RoadTest Preview: Yes, We Will RoadTest the New ULINKplus Debug and Trace Unit. HURRAH!

Early last summer, I created a discussion regarding the ULINKplus Debug and Trace Unit and quite a few members joined in and offered their thoughts.

For those of who didn't have the opportunity to join in that discussion, I've created a new ones with two great pieces of news.image

Here's the brief on the product:

The ULINKPLUS from ARM is a an innovative universal debug/trace adapter. It enables test automation, software optimization for ultra-low power applications and isolation for high speed debug and SWV trace of sensitive hardware systems. The compact enclosure allows usage in harsh environments and provides standard target connectors for JTAG, power measurement and general purpose I/O. It connects users PC's USB port to their target system. It allows to program, debug and analyse applications and their power consumption using its outstanding power measurement technology. ULINKplus together with MDK provides extended on-the-fly debug capabilities for Cortex-M devices. A unique feature of ULINKplus is the power measurement capability. It utilizes two high precision 16bit sigma-delta A/D converters with 20MHz sample rate for high signal/noise ratio. This is essential for debugging applications such as motor control, power converters or systems with sensitive analogue processing.

It has some great features, such as:

Here's some specs:

  • Wide target voltage range: 1.2V - 5.5V
  • Electrical isolation from the target system is integrated up to 1 kV
  • USB 2.0 High-Speed connection using the CMSIS-DAP debug protocol
  • USB powered (no power supply required)
  • 10-pin (0.05") - Cortex Debug Connector
  • Hot-plugging to running targets

Devices Supported:

  • JTAG support for ARM Cortex processors
  • Serial Wire Debug (SWD) support for all ARM Cortex-M processors
  • Serial Wire Viewer (SWV) support for all ARM Cortex-M processors

Here's some more information to learn about the ULINKplus:

Great News #1: The Webinar

There's a webinar on the ULINKplus on Nov 30th. You can go here to sign up.

Great News #2: The RoadTest

We will be roadtesting this product. I will be setting up the RoadTet page soon after I receive the product so stay turned.

Sincerely,

Yes this would be very fine if i can test this. It would be fine, because I'm working actually on the Kinetis from NXP in parts also with the KEIL tools, with this i can test it in comparing each other…

From what I found, the uLink+ only works with Keil MDK. This means its Windows only There is Linux version for DS MDK, but this is only for the multi-core ARM chips.

Hey, that's great news! I love the exception view, and seeing the systicks. Awesome work, Randall! I'm sure everyone here is as excited as I am to see what happens (and to get a shot at roadtesting it ourselves!)

The ULINKPlus has been a while coming but it seems to be here at last.

I've only seen the price in euros so far (600).

It'll need some full independent reviews to see how good it is but it does have some interesting (even surprising) features:

notably the claimed 20MHz @ 16 bit sample rate on the current measuring along with 1kV isolation - that's way better than the lovely Keysight N6761A (£2000 + £2115 for mainframe) plug in precision power module in their DC power analyzer series (it offers 10kHz measuring bandwidth).

I'll be interested to see one.

Hmmm ... the ARM blog sys, "ULINKplus will be available from May 2017" - but clearly that didn't happen!

Th max current is just 2.5mA with "internal shunt" - are there higher-current shunts included, or does one have to provide them oneself?
