What Do You Think of This: Aaware’s Far Field Voice Development Platform?

A few weeks ago I received an invite to a webinar on a Far Field Voice Dev Platform by a company called Aaware. I was curious so I attended. Basically, the Aaware far field voice development platform is a single-chip voice and sound capture solution for applications where strong interfering sources and high ambient noise are present.

 

It can be used to develop far-field voice interfaces for artificial intelligence (AI) applications including digital assistants, robotics, home automation and automotive. The platform can also be used to develop voice-based cloud services, including Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

 

The Aaware Sound Capture Platform integrates algorithmic acceleration technology and a flexible microphone array board with Avnet’s MiniZedTm Zynq SoC development platform, using dual-core XilinxRegistered  ZynqRegistered-7000 All Programmable SoC devices.

Aaware’s Acoustically Aware sound capture algorithms, paired with wake word detection technology, allow systems to adapt to differing noise interference, without requiring calibration for different environments or integration of the reference signal. The Aaware platform has a concentric circular array of 13 microphones that may be configured in different combinations, allowing for performance tuning. Its sound capture algorithms include source localization, proprietary spatial/spectral/temporal source separation, and noise suppression to deliver low distortion audio of acoustic sources in the sound field.  Some of the features include:

    The number of microphones would allow me to do a number of sound path analysis and the FPGA could be used for signal analysis.

    You'll appreciate our encounter the other week while in Australia.

    For three nights running there were thunder and lightning storms.

    The first night I witnessed cloud to cloud as well as multiple forks and direct strikes over about 20-30 mins.

    These were all at a distance.

     

    The last night the thunder and lightning went on for an hour.

    I did get some video, but it might be too large to add here.

    This time it was above as it slowly moved across.

    By the way, I picked up a Nikon 3400 DSLR over the holidays, so I am ready for the spring storm season.

    You know that time marches on and what you buy today is already been replaced by something better.

     

    It is all a conspiracy to get us to buy a new camera each year.

    For a long time I've been trying to improve Skype conversations when using my TV, which is 10 feet away. I don't want microphone cables running all over the living room, so it needs good performance at a distance and some way to effectively control feedback from the speakers. I've tried directional mics with lots of gain, but so far I'm not happy with performance. Maybe this array type of solution would work. I will be looking to obtain one of several mems array mics that have started to appear.

    Another application is project blogging where I need to use an external mic with my camera - it is always a problem with tangling up microphone cables and apparatus cabling.

    what you buy today is already been replaced by something better.

    I had a 3100 and gave that to my daughter.

    I brought a 3200 which has some better features (inc the LCD) and yes now it's been replaced again. ....
