The RoadTest 100% Club: 3GHz Spectrum Analyzer - R&S®︎ FPC1000

rscasny
rscasny over 7 years ago

What;s the RoadTest 100% Club? Simply, it's when all roadtesters write and post their reviews.

I've thought about this a lot over the last year: why is it important for all roiadtest reviews to be completed?

Roadtests that receive my person 100% Club tagging means to me that (a) I am choosing the right people to roadtest this product, (b) the roadtesters typify the professionalism of the RoadTest community and (c) a 100% rating provides a complete "review" of the product to benefit the element14 members and supplier.

I want to thank our 100% Club roadtesters:

Instructorman

gpolder

rachaelp

I expect the 100% Club will grow in the coming weeks and months ahead.

Sincerely,

Randall Scasny

OTOH, it could be a nice incentive for everybody to actually write the road test (and maybe doing so can give a nice amount of reputation points too?)

I am happy to be a member of the Road Test 100% Club!

In my mind it is axiomatic that those selected to participate in an element14 Road Test have a personal and professional obligation to make every reasonable effort to complete and post a review. Included in that obligation is an expectation to communicate with Randall and his team about issues that could impact completion. Life happens, just be open about it.

I have enjoyed reading many Road Test reviews that clearly show the reviewers writing talent, dedication to the community, commitment to e14 and the vendor, and enthusiasm for engineering and technology.

On the other hand, I have struggled though other reviews where one or more, or all, of the enjoyable elements are missing or poorly represented.  But that is another topic.  The 100% Club is about all selected reviewers writing and posting reviews.

I have to agree with hlipka that a good chunk of the credit goes to rscasny for selecting testers that are likely to complete reviews. I suppose that historical track record comes into play when screening hopefuls gathered at the gate, but the gatekeeper has to have the skill to assess novice applicants and welcome the worthy into the fold. Making those decisions involves an uncertain balance between risk and intuition. I think Randall is doing a fine job as gatekeeper.

    Thank you all RoadTesters!
Also I agree with Hendrik and with Mark that a good portion

of the credits goes to Randall for selecting the testers.

    The reviews were very informative.
I have set bookmarks for later post-studies.

    Best Regards

    Gerald

While I think it is wise to recognise that the program delivers as promised, IMO this 100% thing might need tweaking.

These guys have demonstrated that THEY provide 100% reviews ... that is a review that satisfies the supplier, element14 and meets the rules (on time, etc)

So they definately qualify for the 100% club, and well done Instructorman gpolder rachaelp

However others that meet the requirements on all occasions can end up with someone else chosen by others that doesn't meet their obligations, and because of this they miss out.

IMO the 100% club membership should be on their own merits.

We do have a large number of members that would fall into this category, and that is good for the community, the suppliers and obviously those running it.

    Mark

I just looked up my own statistics. So far I have written 14 road test reviews. 2 are still outstanding, but their time is not up yet. This gives me 100% return rate - and I'm pretty sure that everybody else writing here has the same 100% return rate of reviews. (I think when you started that habit of delivering to your commitments you stick with it)

Yet from these 14 road tests only 3 would be in the 100% club. Some of them were close (with 4 out of 5), some were awful (like 2 of 5 or 4 of 10). So while its a merit of road test itself to be in the 100% club, the actual road testers cannot really influence this. Publishing your review is required, but not sufficient.

What I found interesting though is: its either the ones with expensive items (like the Keysight DSO1000X scope) or the more obscure / rate items (like the RPi DIN rail enclosure) road tests that had 100% return rate. I guess for the former the selection is more strict and less risk is taken. And for the latter, not so many people apply and you have mostly people which are eager to actually test the item.

Side note: the RPi3 road test has 14 out of 25 reviews, which is quite good for such a popular device.
