Roadtesting stats

Today out of boredom and curiosity, motivated by other posts on site stats I decided to compute some stats of the published roadtests. There are a couple of interesting things that can be computed and would be interesting to know, specially in terms of correlations. For instance, do member points increase the chances of winning expensive items? What about number of posts? There are many questions I was wondering about to better understand the dynamics of the system. One of the first questions (and easiest to answer with my data) was how many users have won and published different amount of roadtests. And the results I obtained were these:

1: 359

2: 68

3: 32

4: 11

5: 9

6: 10

7: 7

8: 2

9: 0

10: 2

11: 3

12: 1

13: 1

14: 2

15: 0

16: 0

17: 1

18: 1

That is, 356 users have won and published 1 roadtest, and 1 user has won and published 18 roadtests. Ideally I would like to count won roadtests (not just published ones), having such data would also be useful to calculate the number of users that win roadtests and never publish anything. Other interesting stats could be to analyse trends, for instance, have the number of words in roadtests reviews increased? As the competition has gotten harder, I would expect to see some visible trends since the beginning of the roadtesting program.

Hey neuromodulator Interested as to how you got these stats. I've just run a quick query on the database and can confirm your stats are mostly correct with a few noteworthy exceptions (like Shabaz has…

I stand corrected. My 'created content' list contains really 17 reviews, starting in 2014. Never would have guessed that much... But I need to admit - most of them are smaller ones, other people do a much…

Interesting stats! What bumped me up was I did three reviews in one go once, a triple RoadTest, they were three IoT board reviews that were needed simultaneously. And sometimes I'll do a review if no-one…

I was thinking three or four, but I've done 6.

There is no magic wand, you fill out an application giving all the information to effectively 'sell yourself'.

While some may take the 'apply for everything' apporach, you're far better to concentrate on the things you know and can deliver on, and it will show in your application.

    Cheers

Well, thanks for doing the math and confirming that I'm there amongst the "long tail" - mine's going to change sooner rather than later image.

But that being said, on a serious note, I think part of the reason has to do with how many items of interest come up and how many times a given member has applied. My success rates haven't been half-bad but I do pick and choose and consistently submit applications for anything of interest. Others may have given up after a single or second no-win-situation or forgotten about the community altogether. As Randall has made clear in the past - quality applications are key and it's likely that those who have some experience will be chosen again because they are a "safer bet" for element14 so as to ensure delivery, because they have a track record that can be judged by application vs delivered review. Likewise, those who may have won in the past have an incentive to "keep the ball rolling" now that they understand the system and how to write applications for RoadTests - after I wrote a few applications, I got the hang of it and what was a bit of a "chore" initially turned into something I do almost automatically. Likewise, members who have been around for longer have a much higher probability of hanging around long enough to see a number of desirable items, attempted to win a number of times and may have (in the end) struck it lucky as previous reviewers didn't re-apply for the same class of equipment.

So I don't think it's a surprise to see the names that you do, nor do I think it's a big surprise that of many of the RoadTesters have only done one or two tests. What is more interesting is to think the sheer number of items element14 have generously shipped out to all reviewers combined ... and the cost that must have entailed.

    Fine, very nice statistics.
Ok, I'm ready to rumble! When is the next road test open? image image

Yes, over the past few days I have also thought of the road tester. Who they are, where they are, and so on ...
It is a great feeling to see that there are many technicians who publish their knowledge and experience here.

This also shows the excellent quality of this E14 forum. image

    Best Regards

It's of no surprise to see fantastic people in the list -well known names within the E14 community- with so much talent and potential. Nice stats.

I agree. I haven't done that many - 4 with another on the way soon. This is probably because I only apply for ones I feel I can do well. I am careful not to claim I'll do something unless I'm sure I can. That way if I'm selected then I'm confident of doing a reasonable job. If I don't get selected then that's fine.

The only thing that messes this up is those who promise everything but don't deliver. (We've had plenty of discussion of this elsewhere.)
