EVAL-CN0313-SDPZ Evaluation Board

Table of contents

Analog Devices and Bourns have introduced the industry's first certified RS-485 evaluation board for protecting against EMC (electro-magnetic compatibility) events in industrial and instrumentation equipment.image
The EVAL-CN0313-SDPZ board incorporates ADI’s ADM3485E, 3.3-V RS-485 transceiver and various circuit protection devices from Bourns and meets IEC61000-4-2/4/5 ESD (electro-static discharge), EFT (electronically-fast transients), and power-surge specifications. The board is offered as part of ADI’s Circuits from the Lab™ reference circuits library and includes circuit notes, test data and results to help engineers reduce design risk in applications such as motor controls, grid tied inverters, and programmable-logic controllers.
The challenge of matching the EMC characteristics of external protection devices and the components they are designed to protect is among the biggest contributors to schedule and cost overruns for manufacturers of industrial and instrumentation equipment. As the first externally certified EMC-compliant design tool for RS-485 circuits, the EVAL-CN0313-SDPZ board provides design and integration files, device drivers, and evaluation hardware. The EVAL-CN0313-SDPZ also includes an EI3 Hirose connector that allows the board to be used with ADI’s ezLINX™ iCoupler® Isolated Interface Development Environment, which provides developers with a cost-effective, plug-and-play method to evaluate the digitally-isolated RS-485 physical communication layer.

  • Apologies for the delay in shipment; however I can confirm that these kits have been sent out to the testers.  Thank you.

  • i simply like the look of this device, mini kits have opened up a whole new world to me, i was in the royal corps of signals British army and miss messing around with bits of kit, not sure what will come out of this rather large and balding globe of mine but hey i was the guy who started the "who ate all the pies" mantra way back.

  • Well, if you're currently trying to drag your product through CE/FCC testing and you're having problems with electrical discharge on your RS-485 lines you'd be more than happy with this board.

For most hobbyists this will not be very interesting, I agree. I think the closest you'd get to hobby projects is DMX (lighting control) which is based on RS-485.

  • Whilst I don't doubt that this is a well engineered and designed device with many possible applications in various fields, I wonder how it could be used with any projects that I am currently undertaking?!

In all honesty, my projects are small enough & low cost meaning that they are easilly replaced. They are also pretty much self-contained and I could not imagine how this could be intergrated or why I would need this level of protection. (Obviously this is designed for "High-End" protection of very sensitive devices).

I may be wrong on my interpretation of the possible uses for this device (which is obviously of no use to me) but I would really be interested to see what the road testers thought of this and what their opinion is of possible uses for this device in real world scenarios.

(Just my two cents, nothing else!).

    Thank you.
