RoadTest: TT Electronics Reflective Optical Sensor Kit
Author: meera_hussien
Creation date:
Evaluation Type: Semiconductors
Did you receive all parts the manufacturer stated would be included in the package?: True
What other parts do you consider comparable to this product?: As I am aware, this product is not comparable to other products due to its tiny size. Previously I have worked with P+F optical sensors, but the size is relatively big compare to this.
What were the biggest problems encountered?: The problem which i encountered while doing this roadtest is to get the OPB9001 calibrated using the GUI. It seems to be the GUI only support for the OPB9000 only.

TT Electronics Reflective Optical Sensor Kit (OPB9001)- Review
By Hussien
The OPB9001 is a versatile sensor that can be used in a wide area of industrial and medical applications. The advantage of the OPB9001 is that it eliminates the need for peripheral circuitry like op-amps, data converters, and comparators since all the signal conditioning is integrated into the IC. The 4 pin connector at the rear side makes the OPB9001 easy to program and operate. This sensor can withstand a wide voltage range and extensive temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, making it suitable for harsh environments. Below are the features of OPB9001
Features:
The kit comes with a USB which has the necessary files. Below is the screenshot of the available files.
Below is the video of setting up the hardware. The setting of the hardware is pretty much straightforward since all the instruction is mentioned in the manual. Just need to be alert on the pin orientation. In this video, I did two test, one with the OPB9000 and the other with OB9001. For OPB9000, I am able to calibrate the sensor using the GUI but for OPB9001 the GUI seems to be not working. The calibration for OPB9001 is done by using the evolution kit.
The video below shows the testing which was done using the GUI and the hardware.
The test which I conducted using the OPB9001 is to test the maximum distance it can detect and a comparison on the detection using two different materials.
The overall roadtest of this product was very interesting. Though I am still working on it to get the GUI work with OPB9001. Also in the future I am planning to integrate this sensor to the Raspberry Pi Pico robot to build a line follower robot. It has been a new learning experience for me. Thank you to element'14 and TT Electronics for choosing me as one of the roadtester for this product.
