CapSense Roadtesters: Implementation Ideas

I was finally selected for my first RoadTest! I've already got just the project to use the CapSense with, but I'd love to hear how the rest of you roadtesters are using it (or how would have if you'd gotten one).

I'll be using it as the input device for a braille teaching aid, adding a small pip on each of the buttons and possibly hooking a tiny rumble motor for haptic feedback. I'll update below with my plans once I've finished digitizing them.

(I really hope this is the proper way to use a document. If it isn't, please let me know.)

That's pretty much exactly what I was thinking, though I didn't think of adding a diode. That will definitely help. My project box is sitting woefully on my desk, practically pleading with me, "I'm almost done, hurry up and give me input, dammit!". Can't wait for it to show up.

I really like your idea of using it on CNC equipment. One of the big reasons I'm using it in my project is durability. The moving part that is a tact switch is great for, you know, prototyping, but in most real-world applications, I end up having to replace them fairly regularly. Not having that extra moving part that can break or jam or whatever is integral, and I would imagine a machine that vibrates and gets assaulted by sawdust and grease would need a fairly robust control board.

    Hi Chris,

Sounds like a good project. That "buzzer" output might have enough current to run a rumble motor, perhaps add a diode and capacitor for good measure?

I don't have a end product to put my switches into but plan to do an evaluation into its suitability for use in a homeworkshop. Testing different front panel thicknesses and using gloves etc.

The thought is that it would be a good match for CNC and measuring equipment.
