Like to Get an Intel Joule? Then Rate These Project Ideas

We received 188 applications for the Intel Joule RoadTest but only 5 units to actually RoadTest. The five official RoadTesters had great ideas. But there were many others with great, interesting and fun ideas. So, I went back to the supplier to see if it would sponsor some Intel joule projects. They agreed. These units would not be for a RoadTest per se but for project builds. The question is: what projects should we sponsor. And that's what I am posing to you. I have listed below the most interesting ideas offered by the Joule's RoadTest applicants. vote on which projects you would like to see built. the top ones I will forward to the supplier for sponsoring,

Wow, a lot of those sound VERY ambitious. This is what my project proposal would look like: I would like to blink an LED. A red one. Oh and if a 3D printer or CNC company sponsorship can be included, I…

Title of the poll is a bit confusing? "Like to Get an Intel Joule? Then Rate These Project Ideas" I interpret it as I could get a Joule, simply by rating the projects listed. Something like "Help your…

Try something that we have to comment of what we belief a good idea for the use of amitel joule would be, not just a tick box and press vote. And I would keep the title as close to the one you have, (get a board for telling you what you would want to do with a intel joule). It gets people like me interested, but the question is, are you actually giving some boards away?

Apparently my poll is a bit deceiving. Not meant to be.

Yes, I am trying to prune down a list of project ideas.

I guess I could entitled it:

"Please vote on Intel Joule Project Ideas"

Oh well.... back to the drawing board.

Sounds like you need an FPGA more than an Intel Joule. It sounds like you want a screen you can connect to the HDMI output of the Joule (Or any HDMI device for that matter).

This might give you a good starting point... https://github.com/ncortot/fpga-led-matrix

See, the downside to an Arduino uno, a that you kind of have to have the board connected up to a PC most of the time for programming, but, my idea was to make it into a low graphics screen, or more accurately, a screen for the Intel joule to run off of.

So other than having the LED's being put on a loop, the board instead will complete the entire coding and decoding of the LED's from its HDMI output, (or better put a "Low Definision Multimedia Interface"  )

Good point. That is a possibility. But I have learned something in this job: people having changing schedules, life priorities and changing interests. If the person who originally proposed the idea could not now for some reason, I wanted to invite other interested and capable candidates.

    Hi Randall,

my assumption was that we would vote on an idea, and have the original roadtester execute it. It seems now that you would have someone else build it.

Building someone else's idea seems strange to me, as a lot of context of the original application is lost in this poll.

Well it depends what you want to display and over what interface, but the likelihood is that the Joule might be way over-spec for what you need. It's possible to drive LED panels from many lower powered (and cheaper) devices such as the Arduino Uno.

Hey, I am trying to plan my idea of a project would be to create a 1metre squared board with a bunch of LED lights, (basically a giant LED screen.) I would then program the Intel joule to power each LED, when necessary.

I am a 14 year old kid so I might just need a little help with the facts of how to program the Intel joule, but would be very happy just to take part.

Let me know if this is too big of a project or is a completely stupid idea for me to even mention.

    Frederick,

You always get me on my lack of clarity!

I guess you could argue that the title is misleading. I'm not sure how else to word it.

Basically, I went back to the supplier and they said they were willing to give some more Intel Joules for free to our members for project builds. The question is: (a) what type of project should be built and (b) who should be built them.

This post was meant to answer (a).

I took the leading ideas from the Intel Joule applications as the fodder for this pole. I wanted to get the members input relative to their interest level in the type of project. I will also take into consideration the comments. Once I had the topic(s) -- I believe they are giving more than 1 unit -- I had anticipated creating some kind of selection process to "award' the unit. It's not simply a giveaway; I need the individuals to build it. And this is not necessarily a RoadTest. I'd like to get a few more projects on the community based on the Joule.

    Is this clearer?

    Randall
