Seeking Feedback on Your Interest in roadTesting Electronic Fuel Gauge Used in Mobile/Wearables

Mobile and wearable devices are packed with more circuits than you can fit on the tip of your index finger!

When we talk about wearables on the element14 community, we often see people talk about IoT or wireless connectivity. Not so much battery fuel gauge IC. Given the fact that these mobile devices all run on batteries, a user would want to have a battery fuel gauge, right?

I've been approached by a supplier who would like our roadtesters to test one of their fuel gauge ICs (fitted on a evaulation board, of course.)

The simple fuel gauge circuit diagram is on the right. In brief, It's an ultra-low power fuel gauge IC which implements the Maxim ModelGaugeTm m5 algorithm. The IC monitors a single-cell battery pack and supports both high-side and low-side current sensing.

The ModelGauge m5 EZ algorithm makes fuel gauge implementation easy by eliminating battery characterization requirements and simplifying host software interaction. The algorithm provides tolerance against battery diversity for most lithium batteries and applications. The algorithm combines the short-term accuracy and linearity of a coulomb counter with the long-term stability of a voltage-based fuel gauge, along with temperature compensation to provide industry-leading fuel gauge accuracy.

So, my question to you: Would you be interested in roadtesting this device? Please respond to my poll below.

Sincerely,

Randall Scasny

I am interested in the technology, but not quite enough to test it independently. If I was designing a PCB that could use this functionality, I would design it in and test it in the application. Unfortunately…

I have an application for this type of product and would love to check out its capabilities. DAB

Interesting, an I2C connected battery gauge. Would go nicely with a project I'm designing at the moment.

For me, I will be hopefully evaluating and RF module with an inbuilt battery monitor for wearables. Maybe I will do my own evaluation here, if and when I get it.
