What could improve your learning experience??

My question is for newbies and expert.

Technology is updating at lightning speed and we are finding unlimited resource on the internet.

Do you think internet is making learning and sharing experience harder ?

So many forums, resources and blogs which one to read or which one to follow?

Is it just me or everyone think we need a central platform to get all the information like wiki for electronics?

What do you think is important to learn or understand new technology?

The most valuable aspect of the internet isn't wiki's, it is search engines and of course the incredible content they can locate in milliseconds.

Since the internet exploded with content, my productivity has increased by orders of magnitude and the internet has added many fascinating dimensions to my life. You can find information in seconds that would take years to figure out for yourself. You can accomplish things in hours or days that you could not attempt in a whole lifetime without the internet. You might not even know they could be attempted with out the internet.

Access to the internet is possibly the second biggest advantage one can have.

There are lots of drawbacks to the internet, but they are all minuscule compared to the benefits.

People learn at different rates and by various media.

Some like books or articles, others like videos and yet others still, only learn by doing laboratory experiments.

So trying to fine one perfect source of learning will be very challenging.

If you want to learn something badly, your intuition will guide you through the way... like others said here, there is more than one way to learn.

    Well said.

They are trying to introduce this type of learning (videos) at work, where the average age of the Techs is above 40yrs.

It's coming from some wet behind the ears, know it all, professional student who has a piece of paper and thinks they have the answer.

I wonder how we all got as far as we did today without them??

Learning is a personal experience and can not be made to fit everyone. I know from experience that I learn best with a real book that I can study and turn its pages. My children and grandchildren seem to prefer looking at a video. While I find the videos entertaining they lack the ability to stop and concentrate when the information comes fast and they waste my time when they present material that is familiar. The internet has been a humbling experience for me. Until it came along I could blame my short comings in producing incredible devices on lack of resources and information. Now the only resource lacking is innate ability. Sigh!

The fact is, the options for learning and the resources available because of the internet far exceed our abilities to use them. While this may make us feel a little overwhelmed it is far better to be overwhelmed than to be in a position where we lack resources. The process of integrating information and zeroing in on the best answer for any specific problem currently boils down to how skilled one is with communicating with search engines. I suspect that artificial intelligence will begin to take a larger role in the job of integrating our knowledge in the future.

The day may come where we will not receive an education in, say Electronics, so much as we will receive an education in how to phrase the questions needed to retrieve the already engineered solutions to our needs. A simple example of this phenomenon is the small personal calculator. With it one no longer needs to know how to Add, Subtract, Multiply and Divide. All you need to know is how to enter the numbers into the calculator. the answer then magically appears.

    Great Discussion Pathik

Honestly I think the very best way to learn is learning from someone more experienced then you, everything I've learned online has taken ten times as long as it would from an instructor.

Good points. We need to THINK like the IBM logo says before searching. No substitution!

    Thanks,

I disagree, Internet is not making any learning or sharing harder Infact it is making it easier. There are numerous examples on how Interenet is making life easier, if I start giving those I will end up writing this comment later (may be, new age). So let's not waste time here.

If you are confused you will remain Confused, untill you clear your mind and choose a right approach about what really you want to do or make. Do not look for everything on the internet its a Huge library of Information of mostly everything on this planet... and everything on Internet is not always correct. Information you gather from Internet may be correct but some idots have their own opinions too so it might be wrong too.

Just take your pick and start working on it right away. For example, if you want to work on a microcontroller just take its datasheet and some example programs to quick start your learning, if you keep searching internet on how to start you will find numerous blogs, forums, Discussion, A whole lot of bunch of data which will keep you Confused. Just pick any tutorial and follow it, you will know if it was right or wrong but whatever it was, it will give you experience. So, gain experience.

And Wiki is not central platform for electronics. Please explore more, may be Internet.

What do you think is important to learn or understand new technology?

Give yourself some more time and explore some more Internet. You will know how to filter out right information from internet.
